About the Book

As the site of a former military base, there have always been rumors that East Township High School was the site of experiments with space and time. For years, students have whispered in the hallways of a doorway created within the school, one that can access multiple timelines and realities, a place known as the Down World.

As the new kid in school and still reeling from the unexplained death of her brother Robbie, Marina O’Connell is only interested in one thing: leaving the past behind. But a chance encounter with handsome Brady Picelli changes everything. He will lead Marina to a startling discovery. The Down World is real and the past, present, and future are falling out of balance.

Brady is determined to help Marina discover what really happened to her brother. However, what is taken from one world, must be repaid by another. And Marina is about to discover that even a realm of infinite possibilities has rules that must be obeyed.

Review

This book was right up my alley! You know, that very niche alley that everyone has. And I am glad to say that it didn’t disappoint! I was so invested in the story throughout and I just thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this one. Plus it’s just so bizarre, which I of course love an appreciate.

This is just one of those books that you’re going to find difficult to put down. Now, I can’t get into it too much cause spoilers would be a no-no but this world is so complex. And as more and more unfolds you’re going to be lured even further into the book. Plus there is a dark undercurrent throughout the story that creates a… purpose?… to the plot.

Down World really blew me away and provided me with something that felt fresh. Which I really needed right now because I’ve been *mildly* slumping for what feels like forever lately.

Revenge of the Slut Tour – Review

Click the image to see my booksta post!

About the Book

Double standards are about to get singled out.

In this stunning debut, author Natalie Walton tackles privacy and relationships in the digital age.

As a lead reporter for The Warrior Weekly, Eden has covered her fair share of stories at St. Joseph’s High School. And when intimate pictures of seven female students are anonymously emailed to the entire school, Eden is determined to get to the bottom of it.

In tracking down leads, Eden is shocked to discover not everyone agrees the students are victims. Some people feel the girls “brought it on themselves.” Even worse, the school’s administration seems more concerned about protecting its reputation than its students.

With the anonymous sender threatening more emails, Eden finds an unlikely ally: the seven young women themselves. Banding together to find the perpetrator, the tables are about to be turned. The Slut Squad is fighting back!

Review

I know you know that this was one of those books that I took one look at, giggled, and said yep, this is a me book. And it was! I was absolutely delighted by this book and just couldn’t put it down. And it’s just a really empowering book, which is something I can’t say no to. I love a book that just takes something absolutely terrible, and scarily prevalent in our society, and gives the power back to the women who aren’t afraid to take it.

This is a book that I feel (god I’m also feeling old right now) will resonate with *teens these days.* Gasp, I am no longer a teen but it feels like yesterday. ANYWAYS, what I’m getting at is that this book reads like a young adult book should read. It’s a little juvenile and a little mature and just the right combination to fit the teenage mind. And honestly the topic of this book is just where it really excels. It opens up the conversations that we should be and need to be having (adults and teens alike in all honesty). Revenge porn and slutshaming is such a fear for many people and too many also have to deal with the repercussions of someone doing just that to them.

I really enjoyed this read and the characters within. There were just so many aspects that fit what women go through, deal with, and fear. And I loved the empowering narrative behind it.

Review

This book was such a good read! It had drama and sparks and action and just really engaged me. And while there is a LOT going on in this story it still just makes you want to read. I mean sometimes you need a book with DRAMA instead of just plain old regular drama.

I know a lot of people don’t particularly care for Wattpad books, but I can’t help but love them. They’re always so… extra, and my extra self loves reading all of that. But where this one differs is the mystery aspect. There’s the typical romance drama but we also get mystery and suspense interwoven in this book. And I really loved that extra depth!

This is a fun book to read so grab book one and book two and get ready for a wild ride! It’s really just such a great story and I can’t wait to see what Cunsolo comes up with next!

Historically Inaccurate Tour

About the Book

It only takes one moment to change your life forever

After her mother’s deportation last year, all Soledad “Sol” Gutierrez wants is for her life to go back to normal. Everything’s changed―new apartment, new school, new family dynamic―and Sol desperately wants to fit in. When she joins her community college’s history club, it comes with an odd initiation process: break into Westray’s oldest house and steal . . . a fork?

There’s just one problem: while the owners of the house aren’t home, their grandson Ethan is, and when he catches Sol with her hand in the kitchen drawer, she barely escapes with the fork intact. This one chance encounter irrevocably alters her life, and Sol soon learns that sometimes fitting in isn’t as important as being yourself―even if that’s the hardest thing she’s ever had to do.

Review

A very happy book birthday to this cutie! This book is just so needed right now. It’s refreshing yet so applicable to what many are going through today. I also love that it focused on a college aged student. I feel like a lot of the books that talk about deportation ignore this age group. And I mean, imagine dealing with this on TOP of the stress of going through college.

This is one of those books that definitely fall into that “day in the life” category. There isn’t necessarily that much that happens in the book, but for a story like this I think that makes it that much more impactful. We get a snapshot into the daily life of Sol for a short period time. See how she deals with everything thrown at her. And how, despite it all, life goes on. Plus Sol is just a wonderful character to read about. She’s got spunk and heart and I really enjoyed learning more about her.

This is a book about family and dealing with losing a key member of that family. Sol’s Mexican heritage and culture is also wonderfully interwoven throughout the story and added a lot of depth and meaning to the themes. And while there are some things I would have enjoyed seeing developed a bit more, this is a nice and short read that you can quickly devour while also gaining something from it.

Sometimes love gets a bit twisted.

Avery Montgomery doesn’t even know if she wants a soul mate.

EEEEEE!!!!!! WE HAVE ANOTHER STORY ABOUT GREEKS! MY PEOPLE! Anyways, I LOVE finding stories about Greek gods and goddesses and their descendants! It always feels like a little bit of home (you know, even though I’ve never been to Greece. Thanks COVID for ruining that trip!). But ever since I was a little kid I was obsessed with learning about Greek mythology and obviously that obsession has carried on through to my adulthood. And Entwined was everything I could have asked for wrapped in an absolutely to die for cover!

Letting out a long sigh of relief, my rebel alter ego took over – time for a self-guided tour of the court.

A.J. Rosen

This books was just such a delightful and easy to read story. It kind of took me back to the “olden” (or as I like to call it, golden) days of YA where the stories were just good stories and nothing was too forced. I dunno, maybe I’m just stuck in the past but I love just being able to pick up a book and enjoy it because it’s just a darn good story. But also, I think I’ve been EXTRA about this because my brain has shut off from all the stress this year and I just need some good ole relaxation when I read. Plus, it’s been a REALLY long time since I’ve found a book about soulmates and honestly I’ve missed this trope. Yeah, it’s cheesy, but that’s the whole point! I mean, who doesn’t fantasize about finding your one true match (or as I like to refer to it as: food and dogs).

It seemed, in that moment, that he, more than anyone else in the world, truly knew me. Inside and out. No matter how many walls I had built to prevent that from happening.

A.J. Rosen

But yeah, this was an addicting, fun, and amazing book! I love when I can honestly say I picked up a book, refused to put it down, and ruined my life some more by refusing to sleep because I HAD to finish it. So yeah, I really enjoyed this one and it’s just one of those really enjoyable stories. And shout out to Wattpad, because they have been KILLING it with their books lately!

The Summer of ’98 Tour – Review

About the Book

Title: Summer of ’98: A QB Bad Boy Novel
Author: Tay Marley
Publisher: Wattpad Books
Distributor: Macmillan
Release Date: July 21, 2020
Genre: Teens & YA
Age Range: 12+
Grade Level: 7-9
ISBN Paperback: 978-1989365670
Price: $10.99

Before Drayton and Dallas, there was Ellie and Leroy . . .

With the prequel to her smash hit The QB Bad Boy and Me, rising star Tay Marley returns to tell the story of Drayton’s parents and the summer that changed everything . . .

Sometimes home isn’t a place, it’s a person. From the moment their eyes met, Ellie knew he would be her destiny. Handsome and ripped, there’s just something about Leroy Lehay, Baylor University’s soon-to-be star quarterback, that makes him impossible to resist.

Consumed by a passion neither one of them can quite understand, Leroy and Ellie spend the summer together. Left senseless and overwhelmed by his touch, Ellie experiences a world of desire she could never have imagined.

Safe in Leroy’s arms, Ellie begins to see a life beyond high school: going to college, starting her own business, having a family. But when life-altering news shakes them to their cores, Leroy and Ellie must discover if their passion is enough to help them get through what might possibly be the greatest challenge of their lives.

Review

This book was just too cute! First of, hooray for another book set in the 90s! I’m seriously so happy that they’re having a revival (even though I refuse to believe we ever left the 90s). Secondly this book was just a feel good type of read. You know, it’s one of those ones where you’ll catch yourself smiling because you’re just enjoying the read so much.

But yeah, the relationship in this book was amazing. I’ve been in such a romance type of mood lately that I’m just so happy with how amazing Ellie and Leroy were. And they were a solid couple, you know the type that survives through thick and thin. But overall this was just a heartfelt story that will take your mind off of everything and give you something to just wholly enjoy.

The Summer of ’98 is a prequel in the QB Bad Boy series and I’m going to need to read the other book STAT. I’m kind of happy that I started with this one though because I’m weird and like that I get the back story before the start of the series. But I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves a great contemporary romance!

The Summer I Drowned Tour – Feature & Author Q&A

About the Book

Title: The Summer I Drowned
Author: Taylor Hale
Publisher: Wattpad Books
Release Date: May 26, 2020
Genre: Teens & YA
ISBN: 9781989365182
Price: $10.99 (USD)

Five years after almost drowning, Olivia Cathart returns home to Caldwell Beach determined to face her fears and take some risks—not just by swimming, but by opening her heart. Hoping to rekindle her friendships, she’s excited about a carefree summer with her best friends Keely and Miles. But life in the sleepy town has changed, and no one and nothing is as it seems.

When a series of startling crimes threaten Olivia’s fragile state, she is plunged into a terrifying game of cat and mouse. Her only solace from the chaos is West, Miles’s disowned and ruggedly handsome brother, but even he can’t answer the question on everyone’s minds—is Olivia really in danger or is it simply all in her head?

About the Author

Taylor Hale was born in Southwestern Ontario, and started writing on Wattpad in 2015. When she isn’t writing, she can be found bartending at a live music venue, and thinking up her next idea. The Summer I Drowned is her first novel.

Author Q&A

Question: What inspired you to write The Summer I Drowned?

Taylor Hale: Oddly enough, it was the name of a candle – “Sea Glass.” I thought it would make a pretty title for a story set in a beach town, maybe a romance. However, the title of the story evolved as the story itself did!

Q: What struggles did you face when writing this book? How did you go about using details from Olivia’s past to inform her present narrative?

TH: Getting into Olivia’s mental state was definitely a challenge, and a bit of a dark place to be writing from. I wanted to write her as someone who is constantly reminded of her past due to not only her trauma, but her emotional attachments to the people and places in the story. I think both her traumatic memories and her positive memories from Caldwell Beach shape who she is and how she sees the world throughout the story.

Q: In the book, Olivia struggles with trauma and PTSD. What do you hope young readers will take away from the ways Olivia copes with her mental health?

TH: I hope they will feel less alone. I also hope they will see it’s okay to ask for help, or to accept help when it’s offered—it isn’t a weakness, it’s a strength.

Q: How does The Summer I Drowned stand out from other books of the same genre? What do you hope to bring to young adult fiction?

TH: I think THE SUMMER I DROWNED stands out in the sense that it has an element of thriller to it, but is very much a YA Contemporary story that focuses on friendships, relationships, and growing up. I hope to bring fresh and unique stories that someone, somewhere can relate to, even in a small way. More than anything, I hope my stories provide solace to those who need it.

Q: When you started using Wattpad, did you ever anticipate becoming a published author?

TH: Not really, no! I knew nothing about the industry or how people even get published. However, after being on the platform for a while, I quickly realized that writing was my calling.

Q: What advice would you give to young writers who are inspired by your writing?

TH: Writing is a craft that takes time and practice. Allow yourself room to “suck” — everyone starts somewhere. Give it time and patience and be kind to yourself when you feel your writing isn’t quite up to par; you’ll have time to fix things later. Getting words on the page is the most important first step.
