More Than Protect You Review

About the Book

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shayla Black comes a new story in her More Than Words series…

Can I keep the gorgeous, gun-shy single mother safe—and prove I’m the man for her?

I’m Tanner Kirk—Certified firearms instructor and mixed martial arts enthusiast. When I filed for divorce at the end of an empty marriage, all I wanted was a vacation in paradise, not another woman in my life. But how can I possibly say no to Amanda Lund, a young single mom desperate to learn self-defense? Or refuse the banked desire on the guarded beauty’s face?

I can’t.

So I seduce Mandy until we’re burning up the sheets…and soon find my heart entangled with her bruised and battered one. But when a nemesis from her past tries to destroy our future by unearthing my secret, will she understand and forgive me—or give up on us forever?

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Review

IT’S STEAMY NOVELLA TIME! I’ve really been enjoying reading some romance novellas lately. I think it’s because I’m toe-ing that line of slumpsville and they’re keeping me entertained and short enough to where I’m not losing focus. It’s just that time of the semester I guess, plus, you know, the world is basically burning. But I was super excited to get an introduction to author Shayla Black with this one!

But where do I even begin with this?! It’s super fast paced but still extremely well written to where you don’t feel like you’re missing anything. Basically, the story fit perfectly into this little novella. Then there’s the characters, they were so great and I loved getting to know them. And lastly there’s the romance! Phew! I loved it!

As I said, this is my first introduction to Shayla Black. I really love these 1001 Nights novellas because they allow me to check out new authors before taking the “full” plunge into their stories (or they just give me more of some of my favorite authors). And so far I have yet to be disappointed by one! So I’m really excited to add some more Black to my reading!

Review

Steamy steamy! This book grabbed my attention right away and then I just devoured it and refused to put it down! Not only were the main characters and their stories captivating, but I also really loved the supporting cast! And all around this was just an enjoyable read where there was a healthy mixture of the bad things in life mixed in with the good.

I don’t know why, but I didn’t expect this to be such an insta-love read. The themes are so dark and twisted, that I was expecting a romance along the same lines. But looking at that, I think that the sweetness behind the romance we got was more fitting for the story. The MCs were broken and damaged, so this lush and kind romance was just what they needed.

So yeah, like I said above, I LOVED this supporting cast of characters! They added a lightness to a story that could easily become too heavy. And I LIVED for the bickering between Archer and Elise! I honestly fell in love with them more than any of the others, what can I say? I love an enemies to lovers trope. And knowing that they’ll be the MCs in the next Phoenix novel makes me beyond pumped to read it and dreading the wait!

Bullets and Kisses Can Burn

The last person Anna Albertini expects to see in an orange jumpsuit in District Court—a place she SO doesn’t belong as a new prosecuting attorney—is Aiden Devlin, the man who’d saved her life when they were kids. For years, she has dreamed about him. Now here he is—his eyes blue, his chest wide, and his hands in cuffs.

Sure, Aiden says he doesn’t want her help, and his ties to a deadly motorcycle club should give her warning. Yes, her new boss is a sexy Italian bad boy who might be using the case to climb to the top. Plus, the detective assigned to the case, with his green eyes and broad shoulders, wants her to stay out of his way.

With so much testosterone surrounding her all of a sudden, most women would find it hard to concentrate. This might be why the case leads Anna to yelp during a spa appointment, fall out of a tree, and chase a naked old man around the courtroom. It’s a good thing Anna learned a long time ago to be her own hero, no matter how fast the bullets fly or the kisses consume.

Author: Tay Marley
Publisher: Wattpad Books
Distributor: Macmillan
Release Date: July 21, 2020
Genre: Teens & YA
Age Range: 12+

Before Drayton and Dallas, there was Ellie and Leroy . . .

With the prequel to her smash hit The QB Bad Boy and Me, rising star Tay Marley returns to tell the story of Drayton’s parents and the summer that changed everything . . .

Sometimes home isn’t a place, it’s a person. From the moment their eyes met, Ellie knew he would be her destiny. Handsome and ripped, there’s just something about Leroy Lehay, Baylor University’s soon-to-be star quarterback, that makes him impossible to resist.

Consumed by a passion neither one of them can quite understand, Leroy and Ellie spend the summer together. Left senseless and overwhelmed by his touch, Ellie experiences a world of desire she could never have imagined.

Safe in Leroy’s arms, Ellie begins to see a life beyond high school: going to college, starting her own business, having a family. But when life-altering news shakes them to their cores, Leroy and Ellie must discover if their passion is enough to help them get through what might possibly be the greatest challenge of their lives.

Review

This book was just too cute! First of, hooray for another book set in the 90s! I’m seriously so happy that they’re having a revival (even though I refuse to believe we ever left the 90s). Secondly this book was just a feel good type of read. You know, it’s one of those ones where you’ll catch yourself smiling because you’re just enjoying the read so much.

But yeah, the relationship in this book was amazing. I’ve been in such a romance type of mood lately that I’m just so happy with how amazing Ellie and Leroy were. And they were a solid couple, you know the type that survives through thick and thin. But overall this was just a heartfelt story that will take your mind off of everything and give you something to just wholly enjoy.

The Summer of ’98 is a prequel in the QB Bad Boy series and I’m going to need to read the other book STAT. I’m kind of happy that I started with this one though because I’m weird and like that I get the back story before the start of the series. But I definitely recommend this book for anyone who loves a great contemporary romance!

Review

For a while it seemed like all I was reading were queer books and I was beyond happy for that to be the case. Then all of a sudden it was as if hardly any of the books I was reading and coming across had any representation. So, I was very excited when The Henna Wars came on my radar because it has so much diverse representation in it and it was just what I needed! Plus, I mean, I’ve GOT to mention that beautiful cover.

First date watching the sunset. It’s kind of cheesy.

Adiba Jaigirdar

What I loved about this book the most is that it wasn’t just one thing. I oftentimes find that contemporaries are either really cheesy, really serious, or really focused on a “cause.” And while I don’t mind that every now and then, it’s what makes me not reach for contemporaries that frequently. However, I was glad to find that The Henna Wars would do no such thing as to disappoint my extremely high expectations and that it was the perfect blend of sweet, serious, and just all around perfection. The characters are so perfect. The setting is so perfect. And I just fell in love with the prose and the way the story just flows.

Why do you look so grumpy?

Adiba Jaigirdar

The Henna Wars is just everything I’ve been missing in my books lately. I’ve been trying to find a book like it, and every time I try one out it just seems to fall short for some reason. It’s just one of those beautiful stories that is also just so important to be out there in the world.

About the Book

By the Book
by Amanda Sellet
Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers
Release Date: May 12th 2020
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Playing the hero; how opportunistic of him.

Amanda Sellet

Mary Porter-Malcolm has prepared for high school in the one way she knows how: an extensive review of classic literature to help navigate the friendships, romantic liaisons, and overall drama she has come to expect from such an “esteemed” institution. Her love of literature even inspires her to imagine herself the heroine of a nineteenth-century novel. Not the sort who makes poor life choices and ends up dying of consumption while still in her teens, but the noble, virtuous, quick-witted type.

Handsome but deadly.

Amanda Sellet

When some new friends seem in danger of falling for the same tricks employed since the days of Austen and Tolstoy, Mary swoops in to create the Scoundrel Survival Guide, using archetypes of literature’s debonair bad boys to signal red flags. But despite her best efforts, she soon finds herself unable to listen to her own good advice and falling for a supposed cad—the same one she warned her friends away from. Without a convenient rain-swept moor to flee to, Mary is forced to admit that real life doesn’t follow the same rules as fiction and that if she wants a happy ending, she’s going to have to write it herself.

The bad news hit me in stages: Customers.

Review

I’m just obsessed with how cute of an idea this book is! I am just in love with the story and was just so amused with it. I mean, it’s got all of my favorite things rolled into one: classics, bad boys, and just overall reminding me of Jane Austen. I mean, if this wasn’t me as a teenager then I don’t know what was! I feel like I’m being rambly, but I’m just so in love with this one!

It sounded as though she’d faced down an angry mob, as opposed to me, a soft-spoken fifteen-year-old with freckles.

Amanda Sellet

Ok, so I rarely see classics being given so much love in contemporaries and I am so here for the representation in this book! As a classic and period piece fan myself I was just so giddy seeing that in this book! I don’t know, I just really related to Mary. I’m telling you, she was so melodramatic in her own way. I also really liked the touch of adding a diary entry to the beginning of each chapter. It just gave us an additional look into Mary’s psyche.

You’re jilting me?

Amanda Sellet

This story just really made me reminiscent of growing up. I was just able to thoroughly enjoy the story because I was able to relate to it so much. Plus I adored all of the amazing friendships in the story! I don’t know, it was just a happy story, and I’ve been seeking things out like that lately. I really recommend this to all of the book nerds out there, especially those who are into classics!

About the Author

Debut author Amanda Sellet had a previous career in journalism, during which she wrote book reviews for The Washington Post, personal essays for NPR, and music and movie coverage for VH1. These days she lives in Kansas with her archaeologist husband and their daughter.

Excerpt

Dear Diary,

Here’s a secret I’ve never told anyone: Sometimes I pretend my life is happening inside a book. I’m the main character, and there’s a narrator following me around, describing everything. Her piercing cerulean eyes gazed wistfully into the distance as an errant breeze caressed her lustrous auburn tresses . . . Et cetera.

Obviously I’m the good kind of heroine, not someone whose poor life choices will lead to her dying of consumption while still in her teens. And I’m wearing a long dress, and maybe there’s a handsome stranger in the distance. Beyond that, the story is vague. Possibly because my real life has always been light on plot development—until today.

M.P.M.

Chapter 1

The beginning of the upending of my life took place on a sweltering August afternoon, the summer before my sophomore year of high school. I was lying on the couch, immersed in the story of a genteel family with too many daughters and not enough property. The slow rotation of the ceiling fan ruffled the pages of my book. If I held perfectly still, it was possible not to sweat.

“Mary,” said my mother’s voice, summoning me back to the present. “Can I see you in my office?”

There was no clap of thunder or eerie howling in the distance. The sun continued to blaze down from a cloudless sky—or so I imagined, not having been outside. Apart from the mild annoyance of being interrupted in the middle of a crucial scene, I had no presentiment of doom. After fumbling for my bookmark, which had slipped between cushions, I levered myself upright.

When I hobbled into the office on limbs stiff from too many hours in the same position, I was surprised to see my father seated at one end of the desk. Usually he (and Mom) preferred it when he worked in a different room.

“What’s up?” I asked, lifting a stack of literary journals from the threadbare armchair so I could sit.

“Mary.” Dad leaned forward on his stool, hands cupping his knees. “How would you like a new . . . lunchbox?”

Mom winced.

“The one I have is fine. Why?” Being observant by nature—reasonably skilled at reading a room, deciphering subtext, sniffing out the nuances of human behavior—I had an inkling there was more to come.

Dad blotted his temple with the back of his wrist. “Well. As you know, there are things in this life that endure, and others that are more—” He paused, squinting at a framed poster of the Bloomsbury Group, as if one of them might supply the missing phrase. “Transitory.”

“And you think my lunchbox is going to stop existing?” I looked to my mother for enlightenment.

She inhaled as if preparing to plunge into the watery deep. “What your father is trying to say is that you have to change schools.”

Dumbfounded, I struggled to make sense of her words. I’d been at the same school since I was three, a ramshackle on-campus facility catering mostly to the children of professors. It was small, and smelled like old shoes when it rained, but it was also a second home. I knew every rip in the carpet and limp beanbag. “Are you serious?” I finally managed to ask.

“The school’s grant wasn’t renewed.” Among my mother’s gifts was the ability to pack a world of disapproval into the briefest of utterances.

“And they just figured this out? Summer’s almost over.”

The two of them exchanged a furtive glance.

“The possibility presented itself some time ago, but the situation wasn’t definitive until quite recently.” Dad gestured vaguely. “A month or so—”

“Two at the most,” Mom cut in. “We thought it best not to upset you while there was still a chance the issue could be resolved. Plus we had the symposium in Chicago, and then the twins were getting ready for the Shakespeare festival, not to mention Cam’s tournament.” Her eyes slid to me, clearly hoping for some version of Oh wow, you’re right, that was hectic, but I was more concerned by the revelation that they’d known about this in the spring.

“But what am I going to do? This changes everything.” A vision popped into my head: setting off on the first day only to have one of them call after me, By the way, Mary, your school no longer exists.

My mother squared her shoulders. “There was very little choice involved. Private school isn’t an option for us. It was Millville High or the circus.”

While we weren’t paupers, all of us understood that a family of seven had to observe certain economies to get by on an academic pay scale. That didn’t excuse leaving me in the dark for so long.

“What about Jasper?”

She rolled her eyes, a gesture reminiscent of the sibling in question. “No doubt your brother will be delighted.”

“You haven’t told him yet.” The part of me that kept a running tally of which sibling got what was relieved. It was important to make sure the privileges of birth order were respected, even when the rest of the universe was falling apart.

“Jasper is enough of a contrarian to think middle school will be fun.” Mom huffed through her nostrils, in case we’d missed the sarcasm.

“And so will Millville High,” Dad said with forced cheer. “Especially with your sister there to take you under her wing.”

Despite this assurance, I found it hard to imagine Cam playing nursemaid. She was going to be a senior, and captain of the field hockey team, with a busy life of her own. I could go to her in dire straits, or if I needed to intimidate someone, but it wasn’t as though we spent a lot of time hanging out together now. I didn’t bother explaining this to my parents. There were too many other things to worry about.

“So I’m going to Millville High in—a week?” I glanced at the calendar on the wall, each month featuring the idyllic childhood home of an English novelist. “And I’ll know one person, and everyone will look at me and wonder why a sophomore can’t figure out where her classes are or how to open a locker or anything else that happens at a normal high school?”

“Pooh pooh.” My father was the only human being I knew who actually said those words, instead of using them as a verb. “Of course not. Anjuli will be there, too.”

The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly Tour – Review, Favorite Quotes, & Giveaway

About the Book

The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly
by Jamie Pacton
Publisher: Page Street Kids
Release Date: May 5th 2020
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance

And I suddenly know exactly what I need to do.

Jamie Pacton

Kit Sweetly slays sexism, bad bosses, and bad luck to become a knight at a medieval-themed restaurant.

Working as a wench―i.e. waitress―at a cheesy medieval-themed restaurant in the Chicago suburbs, Kit Sweetly dreams of being a knight like her brother. She has the moves, is capable on a horse, and desperately needs the raise that comes with knighthood, so she can help her mom pay the mortgage and hold a spot at her dream college.

Is the Girl Knight going to end up dead in a laundromat?

Jamie Pacton

Company policy allows only guys to be knights. So when Kit takes her brother’s place and reveals her identity at the end of the show, she rockets into internet fame and a whole lot of trouble with the management. But the Girl Knight won’t go down without a fight. As other wenches join her quest, a protest forms. In a joust before Castle executives, they’ll prove that gender restrictions should stay medieval―if they don’t get fired first.

This. Is. My. Life.

How. Very. Not. According. To. Plan.

Jamie Pacton

Review

I have to admit that as soon as I saw this book I fell in love with it. It was just one of those books that I immediately knew I’d love and adore. It’s just one of those books that will fully entertain you while also portraying a fierce feminist story. Plus this book kept making me laugh, and while I always love books that make me laugh I needed that especially right now.

With a deep breath and a prayer to the badass ladies of the Middle Ages, I hit Send.

Jamie Pacton

So, as a woman I can completely feel for Kit with dealing with sexism in the workplace. So I really appreciated that aspect of the story. It’s always exciting to see the underdog succeed in the workplace and put others in their place. But what I think this book did the best in was making Kit seem like the actual teenager she really is. I always like when I read a book and the character shockingly acts their age instead of some extremely well versed philosopher. But, while this book claims to be a romantic contemporary, I feel like the romance wasn’t really the forefront of this book. Which I really didn’t mind, I mean there was already so many other aspects in this book that it didn’t really feel necessary.

Have you ever thought about jousting?

Jamie Pacton

I’m always a little wary of books that boldly declare themselves to be feminist. I know that sound backwards, but I just don’t like when they get too preachy and the story gets set aside. I much prefer when books infuse the feminism around the story. I was glad that this story did just that and effortlessly juggled the kitschy story, the feministic undertones, while also supporting a diverse cast of characters. I think the mix of contemporary and historical really helped make this story and sets it apart from other current contemporary books.

About the Author

Jamie Pacton writes all sorts of books: dark, feminist YA fantasy; contemporary YA stories with a funny + geeky bent; funny MG adventure-fantasy; and, even the occasional adult rom-com. She was a Pitch Wars mentee in 2015 and she mentored YA in 2016, 2017, and 2018. She grew up minutes away from the National Storytelling Center in the mountains of East Tennessee; she’s the oldest of ten kids; and, she currently lives in rural Wisconsin with her husband, their two kids, and a dog named Lego. The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly (forthcoming May 5, 2020) is her Young Adult debut.

On Sale: 04/07/2020

Hardcover: 336 pages
Publisher: Tor Teen (April 7, 2020)

ISBN: 9781250187666
They have a love-hate relationship with summer.

Sidney and Asher should have clicked. Two star swimmers forced to spend their summers on a lake together sounds like the perfect match. But it’s the same every year—in between cookouts and boat rides and family-imposed bonfires, Sidney and Asher spend the dog days of summer finding the ultimate ways to prank each other. And now, after their senior year, they’re determined to make it the most epic summer yet.

But their plans are thrown in sudden jeopardy when their feud causes their families to be kicked out of their beloved lake houses. Once in their new accommodations, Sidney expects the prank war to continue as usual. But then she gets a note—Meet me at midnight. And Asher has a proposition for her: join forces for one last summer of epic pranks, against a shared enemy—the woman who kicked them out.

Their truce should make things simpler, but six years of tormenting one another isn’t so easy to ignore. Kind of like the undeniable attraction growing between them.

Praise for Meet Me at Midnight

“Sweet and real, and fans of Sarah Dessen or Meg Cabot will find themselves hoping these pranksters find true love. With a light romance, humor, and summers full of swimming, parties, and bonfires, this is a perfect beach read.” —School Library Journal

“Pennington crafts two believable teens ensnared in a hate-to-love romance that is addictingly enjoyable. The comedic matchup between Sidney, a meticulous overthinker, and the charming yet snarky Asher will have readers rooting for the duo. A steamy, prank-filled summer romance that readers will devour.” —Kirkus Reviews

“Does Jessica Pennington have a PhD in chemistry? Because the sparks were FLYING! Meet Me at Midnight is full of wit and romance, with a plot that kept me guessing and characters that I couldn’t help but root for.” ―Lauren Morrill, author of Meant to Be

“A swoony, snarky, perfect romance, set during the summer before college when anything (even falling for your sworn enemy…) is possible. A must-read for YA romance fans!” ―Kerry Winfrey, author of Things Jolie Needs to Do Before She Bites It and Waiting for Tom Hanks

“Meet Me at Midnight is the young adult answer to The Hating Game, set at a picturesque Michigan lake house. Readers will fall for Asher and Sidney as they figure out if they’re better as sworn enemies, friends, or much more. A fantastic addition to any romance lover’s shelf!” ―Christina June, author of It Started with Goodbye and No Place Like Here

Review

I was so excited for this book because it immediately made me think of home. And not the home I currently live in, but the place where I grew up. You know, we always have that one location that will always be considered home. For me that was a small town on a lake where everyone knew everyone, it takes forever to get anywhere, and you can almost always hear cows no matter where you are. So you can see why this book made me think about home! And it came at the perfect time because I’ve been feeling a little homesick lately.

This book was just so cute! Plus it involved one of my all time favorite tropes: enemies to lovers. Plus PLUS it’s the perfect read for as we’re nearing summer! Even if we’re all stuck in quarantine and social distancing we can at least escape a bit through the hijinks of new characters! And it helps that this is actually a fairly long story as far as contemporaries go, so you get to be entertained by it for even longer!

I really loved the hot and cold feel to this relationship. I say it all the time, but there’s just something about some good angst that hooks me into a story. But I actually found it even cuter seeing the familiarity between the two characters. That aspect just really helped me relate to the characters because that’s how living in a small town seems to work! But then again the whole setting felt familiar to me, and I just loved it so much!

About the Book

About DEADLY SURRENDER

Getting too close could end their friendship…

Good old-fashioned heartbreak sent Grace running to Las Vegas for a new start. There, she has the support of a college buddy and her social group, which includes Logan…funny, sexy, protective Logan MacNeil. They’ve become close friends, but that’s all Grace is willing to offer. Logan’s a known player, and Grace has been hurt enough for one lifetime, thanks. Getting left at the altar will do that to a woman.

Being apart could end their lives…

Logan’s reputation is more than a little exaggerated, and he’s never cared. Until Grace. She’s worth risking his heart again, if he can convince the brave, independent woman he’s not the playboy he seems. Right now she needs a friend…and a protector. Someone has already targeted them both—twice. Logan suspects he gained an enemy for his part in his boss’s recent failed business deal. But until he’s sure, he’s keeping Grace close. Achingly, torturously close… And when things turn deadly, he’ll lay everything on the line to make her his.

Review

Happy book birthday! There are so many amazing new releases today! I’m kind of new to the whole romance genre, so I was really excited to check out romance suspense! I mean it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like but I absolutely enjoyed it! I’m also not typically a huge friends to lovers trope lover, but I’ve read two lately and now I’m thinking that maybe I need to reconsider how I feel about that. Because dang was this book steamy and amazing! The chemistry was so on point and there was all of my beloved angst.

But this book was just so good! I loved all of the characters and the dialogue was so witty! I find that lately I’ve been able to better focus on romance books than any other genre. They just take my mind off of everything for a moment and I can just sit back and relax a bit. I also love the slice of life that they can bring, even if there is extra drama. That extra-ness just makes it all the more fun!

But yeah, this book is good! PLUS it’s a part of a series so there’s just all that much more for you to devour and love! It’s got it all though chemistry, drama, romance, suspense, and more! You’ll just have to read it to find out the more!

Excerpt

Ever since she’d walked into his orbit, he’d had one focus. Grace. The first time he’d met her, her bright smile had nearly knocked him on his ass. When he looked at her, he wanted to smile too. Hell, it was impossible not to.

“I’ve gotta have some secrets.” He pulled her close as they reached the dance floor.

She was five foot seven and fit perfectly against his six foot two frame. Tonight she had on some sparkly, multicolored dress he’d never seen her in before but it hugged all her curves, dipping low in front and flaring out with every step she took. It definitely fit in with the Vegas club scene. Every time she moved, a rainbow of colors shimmered across her body. Normally she wore jeans and flowy tops, but this? Oh, he liked this so much.

“Fine, be that way.” She mock pouted as she started swaying her hips to the music.

He wasn’t a big dancer, mainly because he didn’t have much rhythm—but no way was he letting her out on the dance floor without him. He was claiming her for everyone to see even though she clearly had no idea how he felt about her. And she was pretty much the only one who didn’t realize how into her he was.

He understood though. She’d gotten burned so bad before she’d moved here, so he was simply biding his time until she was ready for him. And if she decided she never wanted to take a shot with him, well, at least they were friends. Though that was something he didn’t want to think about. Because he would always want more, and he couldn’t even pretend to himself that he was okay with that. So he shut the thought down hard.

When some guy started creeping up behind her and getting a little too close, he gave the man a look that immediately made him back off.

It made Grace laugh and dance even closer to him. Good God, the way she moved was pure erotic fantasy. And her laugh? He wanted to drown in that too. To just soak up everything that was her.

“Heads-up, your ex is here,” he murmured as he leaned down closer. He didn’t want to hurt her with the knowledge, but he wanted her aware that the loser had just stepped onto the dance floor. “Want to put on a show?”

Her eyes widened as she looked up at him. And he noticed that she didn’t look around to see if he was telling the truth. No searching looks for that loser who’d left her on their wedding day. Maybe she didn’t care about her ex anymore. She never talked about him. Maybe…she was ready to move on?

“What do you have in mind?” She raised her voice again, still moving in tune with the music.

He leaned down, making his intentions clear. Things were about to change between them, even if this was just for show. Because he knew once he got a real taste of her there was no going back.

Her eyes widened slightly but she didn’t pull back. Instead she leaned into him, and when he slanted his mouth over hers, he hoped that this was more than just a show for her.

Because it was real to him. The taste of champagne on her lips made him go lightheaded as she leaned into him, holding on to his shoulders as she teased her tongue against his. He clutched onto her hips, savoring the feel of her curves pressed against him.

He hadn’t had sex in forever, not since he’d met Grace. Hell, since before then. He’d been tired of the dating scene long before he met her. But he had a reputation and everybody assumed he was this giant player. He had been once upon a time, but that phase hadn’t lasted long. He’d gotten tired of one-night stands and meaningless hookups but the reputation had stuck. Probably because he was a huge flirt.

He shoved thoughts of his past and everything else away as Grace plastered her body to his, wrapping her arms around his neck.

This didn’t feel like a show; this felt totally real. So damn real he was afraid to hope for more.

And as he nibbled on her bottom lip, he realized he didn’t want anyone else seeing them making out. Her kisses and moans and everything else were just for him. And the way she was melting against him completely caught him off guard. He’d just wanted a little taste. Now? God, she couldn’t be acting. He sure as hell wasn’t. Holding her tight, he nibbled his way along her jaw, not bothering to hide his reaction to her. And she didn’t seem to mind. “Want to get out of here?” he murmured before gently biting her earlobe.

Review

Eek! This book was just too cute! I read it in one sitting and just couldn’t get over all of the d’awww inducing scenes! I am now fully a part of the novella length contemporary romance team! I also desperately need to check out all of the other books in this series ASAP! The only bad thing about this book is that I read it while hungry and my sweet toothed self is still dying for a cupcake (or donut really)!

While I’m usually in the give me a hefty tome of a book camp, lately I haven’t really been able to focus on reading all that much. So adding in a shorter novel like this was just the pick me up that I needed! Plus this was just such an adorable story regardless! I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers but I may now be a sucker for forbidden romances as well! I mean, dang, who wouldn’t be if it meant you got to sneak around with a smexy personal trainer?!

The characters were all really likable as well! Since this was a shorter story there was no opportunity for any groan inducing *drama* to be added. Which I really appreciated! I got to read the story for what it was without feeling like I’m taking a bunch of side quests while the MCs struggle to overcome their differences and whatnot! So I definitely recommend this book if you’re needing a little bit of a pick me up! Just be warned, there are many detailed descriptions of scrumptious cupcakes and cakes.
