About the Book
With nothing to lose and even less to gain, 17-year-old Alexa Walker finds herself on the run. Not to the fantasy of a brighter future, but fleeing from the nightmare just behind her. Coming from a state home in a neighborhood even the boogeyman wouldn’t touch; Alex is desperate to find a safe haven where she can live out her days in boring anonymity. But in typical fashion, what she wants is not what she gets.
Strange recurring dreams lead Alex to Green Mont California, where she stumbles into the beautiful world of the privileged elite. And onto the radar of Ash Hartford and Caden Langston. The most alluring beings she’s ever met. And far more dangerous than she knows.
Here, her past is not a stigma but a mystery. And the chance at a new life is too good to pass up. But the glittering world of pretty boys, parties, and fashion is shadowed in secrets even her new friends seem to hide. And the closer she gets to finding out the impossible truth? The faster the nightmare of her past closes in on her. Will her friends unite and stand with her? Or will they be the ones to betray her?
I have been reading a lot of books featuring lost girls suddenly entering an elite world, and you know what? I CANNOT complain! You guys, I truly forgot just how much I love this type of plot! Sure there’s some cheese factor and maybe even some cringey aspects. But that’s what MAKES these kinds of stories! And I’m even more excited because even though I’ve been reading a lot of books with the same style plot, they’ve all been truly unique and different. So I obviously haven’t gotten bored since I keep going back for more! And Finding Innocence was definitely the perfect addition to this new reading habit of mine!
I must say that this book exceeded all of my expectations! It grasped my attention right away and then I became INVESTED in the characters! I love a good cast of characters and this one definitely had just that (also, make sure to check out ALL of the gorgeous character art on Keith’s insta!)! And Keith didn’t stop at just a great plot and set of characters, there was so much more to this book that just makes it stand out! Everything is just so beautifully woven together and there are still these conversations of the toxicity that can come with a “societal elite.”
Now I just need to wait for the second book to continue this delicious story! I honestly cannot wait to see where these characters go with the story as well as what new things are added. You know I’m a sucker for some world building, so I’m always eager to see what I get to learn next when more books in a series arrive!
About the Author
Karen Keith began traveling as soon as she was old enough to leave home. From sprawling cities to isolated pockets of the globe where she relied on her wits and resourcefulness to communicate. Forging friendships in unlikely places and collecting stories became a way of life.
Her first job at a counter selling makeup was the last job she ever accepted working for someone else. She dove into the world of entrepreneurship that was as diverse as her adventures; Makeup art, styling, editing, and art directing for top fashion publications, TV, and Film. She went on to launch her own company with the sole purpose of visually developing new talent. And later she opened her first jewelry store in Miami, exclusively featuring her brand. From there she built her own manufacturing house from the ground up and designing jewelry turned into design fashion collections for herself and others.
Keith didn’t own a tv for most of her life. It was journaling and books she couldn’t live without. Writing had always been a creative pleasure for her. But one week of intense restlessness, led to a few chapters, and from that point, everything changed. Keith quotes, “I didn’t begin my first novel ‘Finding Innocence,’ with the ambition of a new career. But when I discovered writing a great story is the same high as reading one, there was no going back.”
