Glamour, treachery, and espionage collide when an English socialite rushes to save her sister from the Nazis.
As the daughter of Sir Alfred Whitford, Kat has a certain set of responsibilities. But chasing her wayward sister, Ellie, to Nazi-occupied Paris was never supposed to be one of them. Now accustomed to the luxurious lifestyle that her Nazi boyfriend provides, Ellie has no intention of going back to the shackled life their parents dictate for them—but Kat will stop at nothing to bring her sister home.
Arrested for simply trying to defend himself against a drunken bully, Barrett Anderson is given the option of going to jail or serving out his sentence by training Resistance fighters in Paris. A bar owner serves as the perfect disguise to entertain Nazis at night while training fighters right below their jackboots during the day. Being assigned to watch over two English debutantes is the last thing he needs, but a payout from their father is too tempting to resist. Can Barrett and Kat trust each other long enough to survive, or will their hearts prove more traitorous than the dangers waiting around the corner?
How do you make me salivate over a book? Combine Nazis, glitz/glam, and Scottish men is how. Like, hooked to the pages and not able to look away type of book. Like my friend was talking to me and I didn’t even notice type of enamored. So yeah, good book! Like you should most definitely read this while you are social distancing.
I think it was the first Lass that made me fall in love with this story. I can’t help that I adore a Scottish accent, especially if there’s bickering involved. I would say my obsession with these accents started with Outlander, but honestly it was way back when I first heard it ever. It was just that insta love where I just really like the sound of it. But enough of me being a total weirdo. Did I mention that our two MCs first met by bickering with one another? I just love that set up, I think it’s so cute! Plus there might have been some pottery bashing to make the scene even more amusing. So yeah, this book REALLY started off on the right foot.
And then it just continued to get better! I think that a book that deals with this type of content fares better with some light comedic scenes dusted throughout. But seriously, this book could have been so much longer and I would never get bored with it! It was just that good! And I will definitely be needing to check out more books from Ciesielski.
